My company is about to change direction and supply its software in more standard licensing models rather than SAAS.  I have never had to worry about copy protection but given the value of the software it is important that it does not find its way cracked onto a Russian web site.

We have managed, relatively straight forwardly to protect against copying when being installed on conventional systems but was staggered that there is nothing that can be done when installing into VMWare.

The problem is simple, you can install into a VMWare machine and activate the software with the right license codes.  Then simply clone or shut down the VMWare and copy the file.  Then run it as many times and as many machines as you want.

VMWare turns out to be a very efficient tool for software theft.

Its a shame that they have done nothing to sort this.  A big shame.
